Stocks end mixed after late-day recovery
Stocks closed mixed Tuesday, after making a come-back in the final hour, as investors digested earnings results from a host of blue-chip companies, mixed reports on the U.S. economy and surprisingly slow growth in the United Kingdom.
Stocks got the week off to a solid start Monday, with the Dow slowly clawing its way toward the 12,000 mark.
Nearly half of the companies in the Dow Jones industrial average are scheduled to release quarterly reports this week, and expectations are very high. But don’t be surprised if stocks have a muted reaction to stronger-than-anticipated profits and sales.
